Description

Ylang-Ylang essential oil fractions

Ylang-ylang essential oil is made from the flowers of the Cananga odorata plant by steam distillation.

The distillation process lasts 12-18 hours and fractions I, II and III are collected at different distillation stages. Each grade has a slightly different chemical composition.

Ylang-Ylang III has a spicy and dark aroma. The essential oil of the third fraction has the most persistent smell. Fraction III has less floral scent than the other fractions, and vanilla fragrance is more prominent. Fraction III is used in manufacturing cosmetics, soap and candles precisely because of its persistent smell.

Use in cosmetics and soap making

Ylang-ylang essential oil contains several components that can irritate sensitive skin, so it can be used in small amounts in cosmetics that come into contact with the skin. The maximum dosage is 0.13% in lip products, 0.04% in deodorant, 0.18% in creams, 1.4% in soap. More detailed information about the maximum dosage based on the IFRA standard can be found below.
