Sweet Almond Oil in Cosmetics
Sweet almond oil is suitable for many skin types due to its low comedogenic rating of 2 on a 4-point scale. Approximately 70% of the fatty acids in sweet almond oil are oleic acid, which is moisturizing and promotes skin recovery. Oleic acid soothes sunburned skin and helps heal cracked skin. Sweet almond oil also contains over 20% linoleic acid, which reduces flakiness and provides moisturization.
Compared to other oils, sweet almond oil has a moderate viscosity and absorbency. Apricot kernel oil and grape seed oil are absorbed more quickly into the skin, while avocado oil is absorbed at a slower rate.
Sweet almond oil is popular as a massage oil because it absorbs quickly enough to avoid leaving the skin greasy, yet it allows for sufficient glide. To make massage oil, essential oils can be added to almond oil up to 1% of the composition or 1 ml per 100 ml of oil, providing a pleasant aromatic experience.
Sweet almond oil as a facial oil
When applied to the face, almond oil's properties as a skin softener come into effect. The skin feels smoother, and the complexion appears more even. It is particularly effective in improving the appearance of dry and flaky skin. The E-vitamin present in the oil has antioxidant properties, alleviating damage caused by UV radiation. Omega-3 fatty acids help reduce signs of aging and protect against sun damage.
In addition to softening the skin, sweet almond oil can be used as a makeup remover. It effectively dissolves even waterproof makeup. To remove makeup, apply the oil to a cotton pad or sponge and rinse off the residue with lukewarm water.
Is almond oil suitable for hair care?
Applying almond oil to the hair and scalp helps reduce scalp dryness and nourishes and smoothens the hair. Studies suggest that almond oil slows down hair loss and supports the growth of thick, soft, and healthy hair.
Sweet almond oil as a cosmetic ingredient
Due to its anti-inflammatory, softening, and highly nutritious properties, sweet almond oil is a popular ingredient in skincare products. It can be added to moisturizing creams, body lotions, or lip balms, among others.
Sweet almond oil in homemade soap
When adding sweet almond oil to soap, it increases its moisturizing properties and creates a dense and velvety lather. It is recommended to use up to 20% of the total fat content for soap making. It is advisable to combine sweet almond oil with other oils that complement its properties. For example, coconut oil provides strength, lathering, and cleansing properties, while shea butter adds moisture and hardness.

Regular, cold-pressed, and organic sweet almond oil
Relumees' sweet almond oil is mechanically pressed from almond kernels without the use of chemicals. Its skin-softening, moisturizing, skin recovery-promoting, and anti-inflammatory properties are similar to both certified organic and regular sweet almond oil. However, cold-pressed organic sweet almond oil retains more active compounds and vitamins. Organic sweet almond oil of high quality is certified by ECOCERT, guaranteeing that no chemical fertilizers or pesticides are used in its cultivation.
