Melt the rapeseed wax in a water bath until it is completely liquid and transparent. If the wax is not completely melted, it can cause the wax to crystallize.
If desired, mix in fragrance and coloring. The amount of fragrance recommended by the manufacturer is 6-12%. When using a dye, follow manufacturer's instructions. Due to the white color of the wax, the colors remain pastel. Add the dye to the candle as soon as the wax has melted and stir until dissolved. Add the fragrance at a temperature of about 75 degrees.
The melted wax must be allowed to cool before moulding until its temperature is approx. 70 °C.
Mold candle wax contracts as it solidifies to make it easy to remove from the mold. Therefore, a second pour might be necessary.
NB! Changing the pouring temperature can cause changes in the appearance of the candle. Moulds must be at room temperature. Cooling candles too quickly can cause cracks or spots on the surface of the candle. Slow cooling can cause crystallization.
We always recomment recommend making a test candle to finde the best suitable wick thickness. The most difficult is to find a suitable wick for candles with variable diameters, such as balls, cones, and shaped candles. In stages of different diameters, the candle burns at different intensity.
If you use a wick that is too thick, the mold candle starts to drip, if it is too thin, it will tunnel. Suitable wick thicknesses below are indicative:
Stabilo 8 for candles with a diameter of 3,5-4 cm.
Stabilo 14 for candles with a diameter of 4,5-5,5 cm.
Stabilo 16 for candles with a diameter of 5-6 cm.
Stabilo 18 for candles with a diameter of 5,5-6,5 cm.
Stabilo 20 for candles with a diameter of 6-7 cm.
Stabilo 24 for candles with a diameter of 6,5-7,5 cm.
When choosing a wick, it is worth considering that a large amount of coloring or fragrance affects the burning properties of the candle. A candle may need a thicker wick than an unscented and uncolored candle. Different aroma oils can behave differently in a candle.
