Vitamin E, known for its antioxidant properties, is a popular ingredient in skincare products targeting aging skin. It boosts blood circulation and helps reduce the visible signs of aging. For the best results, the product should contain a concentration of at least 0.5-1%.
According to Nutrients magazine, vitamin E may protect the skin from UV damage. Studies have shown that alpha-tocopherol helps protect against redness and swelling caused by UV radiation.
Vitamin E works to boost the skin's protective barrier, helping it lock in moisture. Once absorbed, tocopherol enhances water retention and keeps the stratum corneum hydrated. This makes it a popular ingredient for treating atopic dermatitis.
Using the product in large quantities can make its consistency uncomfortably sticky and may lead to skin irritation. To prevent this, keep the dosage under 2%. While rare, vitamin E can sometimes trigger allergic reactions. For those with sensitive skin, it's a good idea to test for sensitivity before applying.
As an antioxidant, the vitamin also helps extend the shelf life of vegetable oils . To achieve an anti-rust effect, a dosage of at least 0.5% is recommended.
This active ingredient is oil-soluble, so it can’t be used in products without oils. Since it’s sensitive to temperature, it needs to be added to cosmetics at the very end, once the product cools below 40 degrees. If the temperature is higher, vitamin E breaks down and loses its effectiveness.
The active ingredient is widely used in face and lip products, where its anti-aging benefits shine. When combined with oils, it works well in water-based creams too. However, vitamin E isn’t suitable as a preservative for water-based products, as it doesn’t stop fungi or bacteria from spreading and can’t prevent the cream from molding.
