Pink lip balm with coconut oil
Main ingredients in the lip balm are sweet almond oil, coconut oil and beeswax. Sweet almond oil nourishes skin, coconut oil helps the balm to glide better on the skin. Beeswax makes the mix thicker and helps to create a protective layer on the lips. Pink color is created by infusing alkanet powder in almond oil.
This is a softer lip balm mix that is intended to use in small pots and applied with your fingers. Mixture is too soft for lip balm tubes. Recipe yields about 100 ml (10 x 10 ml pots) lip balm mixture.
You will need
55 g sweet almond oil
16 g beeswax
16 g coconut oil
1 teaspoons alkanet powder
small pots for lip balm
Preparation:
First, prepare alkanet extract - this will give the lip balm its pink color. Heat the oil in a water bath, stirring occasionally, for about 15 minutes. Then allow the powder to settle to the bottom. Filter the mixture.
Heat the beeswax, tinted sweet almond oil and coconut oil in a water bath or microwave until the beeswax has melted and the mixture becomes clear.
Allow the mixture to cool slightly before pouring into the pots. When poured hot, the mixture shrinks in the cup and a dent is left in the middle. If you wait a little, surface will be more even. However, do not let the mixture stand for too long, as the beeswax hardens quite fast!
NB!
Recipe assumes that some of the oil will be lost in the tincture making and filtration process. If you do not want to color your lip balm, you can reduce the amount of sweet almond oil by a few grams.
Use and storage:
To use the lip balm, apply it to the lips with your fingers. The pink tone remains delicate and translucent on the lips.
As the product does not contain water, it can be stored at room temperature, protected from direct light for at least 6 months.
