Vegan Lip Balm
The vegan lip balm recipe uses plant-based candelilla wax. Candelilla wax is harder than beeswax and therefore its amount in the balm is lower.
You need:
30 g (33 ml) calendula oil
4 g candelilla wax
8 g of shea butter or coconut oil
Amount
This recipe yields 5x10 ml of lip balm
Making lip balm
To make the lip balm, weigh candelilla wax, oil and fat into a melting pot. Melt them in a water bath or in the microwave. When melting in the microwave, make sure that the product does not overheat.
Allow the melted mixture to cool slightly and pour it into tins. If you pour the hot mixture immediately it will shrink more during cooling and leave a hole in the center. However, do not let the mixture sit in the melting pot for too long, the wax mixture thickens quickly.
TIP! Lip balm containing shea butter is good to put in the refrigerator to set quickly so that the shea butter does not crystallize.
Use and storage:
To use the lip balm, use your fingers to apply it to your lips as needed. Since the product does not contain water, it can be stored without preservatives for at least 6 months at room temperature and protected from direct sunlight.
